Over the last 40 years I have been very physically active practicing a wide variety of disciplines at least 5 times a week sometimes more.  From competitive squash, long distance running, aerobics, and bicycling, to body building, yoga and dance: and I have enjoyed them all.  However, all of this activity has not been without injury or pain and in an effort to correct this I began Pilates.  I began with video tapes and a few classes offered at local gyms.  I thought I was making progress until I spent a few hours with Christine Waterman at Body Control Pilates.  I learned I was just scratching the surface of this incredibly complete and integrated system.

Through the gifted and professionally solid instruction from Christine, I have begun to relearn how to move.  There is no replacement in this system of physical endeavor for qualified, one on one or small group instruction.  Many people have discovered this the hard way by experiencing pain or an injury in classes offered outside a studio.  I know.  Christine is the most intuitive, focused teacher I have had the pleasure of being a student.  The studio ambiance is energetic and calm.

My mat work and Reformer classes have relieved me of chronic lower back pain, are correcting imbalances in my hips, shoulders and general posture.  I feel an incredible sense of physical well being very, very different than all the runners' highs I have experienced. I recommend Christine Waterman and Body Control Pilates to those of you desirous of strength, balance and agility or to help manage arthritis, osteoporosis or injuries.

I plan to continue this system for the rest of my life and I suggest you do too!

I have been taking Pilates with Christine for just over one year.  I find Christine to be a very conscientious instructor and I appreciate the attention she gives to the smallest detail.  I also appreciate the small class size, which also contributes to helping me in achieving the most from each exercise.  I'm finding I am more in tune with my body now and definitely stronger.  I'm learning to recognize tension in my body and what I can do to release it.  I find I have less aches and am visiting the chiropractor a lot less than I used to.  I really look forward to taking my classes each week.

The reasons for attending Pilates are many and when a great instructor supports those reasons the benefits are even more magnified.  I first attended Body Control Pilates two years ago and am grateful to Christine for her patience, good humor and instructing techniques.

Reasons to attend:

1. Physical - Several years ago I kept having a reoccurring disc problem and since participating in Pilates, I have not had another episode.  Pilates strengthens your core muscles, helps with strength training and keeps your muscles flexible.

2. Mental - The time spent doing Pilates requires concentration (or an attempt at it when you are not laughing) and this in turn keeps your mind off the daily stresses.  When you settle into a class you focus on deep breathing and control and you leave other issues at the door.

3. Team Work - There is a sense that we all have difficulty doing certain positions but you find that the others in a class encourage you on.  Just as you in turn will do to them when they are in the same position.

At Body Control Pilates the class size is kept small which means there is time for the instructor to provide more individual attention.  Therefore, making sure that your time is well spent at achieving the best for your body.
